Paul Pharaoh
Partner
As lead partner for Martineau Johnson’s university and college clients, Paul both maintains an overview of all work undertaken for them and heads the firm’s specialist education team. He has wide experience of constitutional and public law issues, professional regulation and the law of charities. He advises on education contracts, collaboration between and merger of educational institutions, and conduct of hearings and appeals.
Paul has led the firm’s teams on the merger of chartered and statutory HE institutions, and transfer of an institution from trust to company status. He has dealt with a number of transfers of parts of the undertakings of colleges and universities, and the acquisition by a university of a government research institution. He has also been involved in the majority of FE college mergers in England since 1998.
Paul is recognised by professional directories as a leading practitioner in the law of higher and further education. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Education Law Journal and wrote key chapters in Higher Education Law (Jordans, 2nd edition 2002)
