Nick Mallett
Partner
Nick is a partner and head of our commerce team,
focusing on commercial contracts. Nick’s particular specialisms
include travel and tourism, the direct selling channel of distribution,
and direct marketing and sales and marketing companies; also
company sales, purchases and joint ventures, both domestic and
overseas; e-commerce, and information technology law; corporate
finance for unlisted companies, non-contentious intellectual
property, agency, distribution, franchising, outsourcing, and
commercial agreements generally. Nick provides a general counsel
service to many of his clients, some of which he has advised
since the late 1970s. Nick is Chairman of the Commercial
Law Committee of the City of London Law Society, and Secretary of the Legislative
Affairs Committee of the Direct Selling Association. Nick is
based in our London office, but spends a lot of time in our Birmingham
office and “on the road” visiting clients.
Among the significant transactions in which Nick has played
a leading role are the entry of a long-term £140 million
agreement for engineering and logistics support to a Train Operating
Company, the establishment and eventual sale of an airline, the
purchase and sale of nationwide chains of estate agents and car
rental companies, the outsourcing of in-flight catering by a
major UK airline, long-term co-operation arrangements between
tour operators and various suppliers, the purchase of various
leisure facilities, including hotels, casinos and golf clubs,
both in the UK and abroad.
