James Dilley

Partner

James has extensive experience of advising on EU and UK competition law, as well as general EU law including public procurement and state aid.

He has considerable expertise in providing strategic advice in relation to EC and national merger control procedures and in particular the jurisdictional issues raised by complex holding structures. James' commercial practice covers cartel enforcement, distribution arrangements, technology licensing, product development and manufacturing arrangements, R&D agreements and advising businesses with a dominant position. James also provides compliance training and guidance in relation to all aspects of competition law, public procurement and state aid.

James has applied competition laws in a wide range of industries and markets including: aviation, shipping, banking and insurance, hedge funds, commercial property, music publishing and recording, information technology, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas exploration, nuclear power, beverages, logistics, retailing, luxury and branded goods and private equity. James has practised competition law in London, Brussels and Copenhagen and is well versed in providing integrated pan-European advice.

James has a degree in Law and Economics from the University of Durham (UK) and an LLM in European law from the University of Lund (Sweden). He has lectured competition law at the University of Copenhagen and regularly speaks and writes on competition law matters. James is a member of the Competition Law Association, the Competition Law Scholars Forum and the Law Society’s European Group.
