Andrew Whitehead

Partner, Head of Commercial Group

Andrew is a partner and head of our commercial group, specialising in contractual, regulatory and projects work for our clients active in the energy and water sectors. He leads a team of 10 lawyers who work full time on energy related work, supported by a cross-departmental group of lawyers providing advice to our energy and water clients in areas as diverse as debt collection, competition law, financial services and wayleaves/easements.

Andrew's team have a thriving renewables practice; they acted for a developer in its consenting and disposal of one of the government's round 1 offshore windfarm schemes, and are acting on various onshore projects as well as a further two round 2 offshore windfarm schemes. In addition, the team is advising on climate change initiatives in particular Kyoto flexibility mechanisms and emissions trading.

Among the projects on which Andrew has played a leading role are: the conversion of a statutory water company to listed plc; the creation of the world's first reactive power market; the launch of Europe's first screen based within day gas commodity market; the design and implementation of aspects of NETA and CUSC; the review of GB gas metering arrangements; the drafting of energy trading documentation including options and security arrangements.
