media centre: press releases
four plus four equals eight for education lawyers 26/08/2008 The education team at Birmingham and London law firm Martineau has received a huge boost in the shape of four new major client wins and four re-appointments.
The firm's national education law practice has been appointed in competitive tenders to advise Lancaster University and the University of Exeter, two of the UK's leading universities, The Henley College, a leading provider of further education in the Home Counties, and Enfield College, continuing the expansion in Martineau's London client base.
The firm has also retained four of its established clients, Cardiff University, Coventry University, Stratford-upon-Avon College, and Suffolk New College, following the tendering process.
Smita Jamdar, who heads the education team at the law firm, said: "Our appointment at these eight universities and colleges in the North, South, West and East of the country emphasises our credentials as a national provider of legal services to the education sector.
"Our approach is to build partnerships with universities and colleges around the UK and to build our resources still further in response to the growing market for legal services in education. We are specifically looking to increase our market share in the sector."
In recent years, Martineau has built its resources in education law to the point where around 100 of the firm's partners and staff now work on clients in the education sector.
"We have focused on delivering a specialist service to education clients though many of the issues to which our advice relates are common with private sector business," said Ms Jamdar.
"The difference is the culture and the special considerations in education and this is where our sector specialisation continues to pay off.
"To have four wins and four retentions in the last six months is fantastic news for the firm and, buoyed by this, we are planning to build our resources further and we will be looking to recruit additional lawyers in the months ahead."
