Powerful win for Martineau Johnson
22/03/2007
Birmingham and London law firm Martineau Johnson has been appointed by British Energy to handle debt recovery work for the group’s electricity supply business.
Following a competitive tender earlier this year, Martineau Johnson’s team, led by head of corporate recovery, Andrew Adams, was appointed to carry out the work as part of an on-going retainer.
“British Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy providers, and we have worked closely with them on a new approach to debt recovery,” commented Andrew Adams.
Now all debts that fall within specified criteria will be dealt with by Martineau Johnson’s debt recovery team.
“Our brief extends to advising on contested litigation and arbitration as well as de-energisation work, and we will be working closely with our energy team on these matters,” Andrew added.
This latest instruction builds on Martineau Johnson’s growing reputation in this area, where it has successfully handled debt recovery work for some time for another of the UK’s major energy suppliers, Npower.
“The UK energy and water sectors are facing increasing competitive pressures and media scrutiny, as well as tighter regulation, and we are finding an increasing number of our utility clients re-examining their customer facing operations to ensure they are as efficient and cost effective as possible,” said Mr Adams.
“Energy & utilities has been one of the firm’s chosen sectors for several years now, and we have built up an impressive portfolio of clients and retainers from our base in the Midlands. An in-depth knowledge of the sector and latest legal developments is key, and means we can stay a step ahead when adapting our services to meet the needs of our clients.”
