key sectors: education

Our further and higher education practice works for over 80 institutions throughout the UK.

We are a successful and dedicated team of four lawyers who are FE and HE specialists, working only with our university and college clients. The team, including, Paul Pharaoh (head of team), are all college governors.

We are supported by a wider Education Focus Group, made up of specialist lawyers from across the firm, many of whom are recognised as leaders in their particular fields. They regularly work for education clients in the areas of their own expertise.

Further and higher education is one of our chosen sectors, and we have worked hard over many years to build a strong reputation for our work.

It is our commitment to the education sector which has established us as a practice of national reputation.

As education goes through a period of change and expansion, we are working with some of the country's most innovative and entrepreneurial universities and colleges, providing effective legal support wherever it is needed.

We offer help with:

  • capital funding and PPP/PFI
  • constitutional and public law
  • construction and development projects
  • data protection and freedom of information
  • disability discrimination and other equality issues
  • employment and pensions
  • governance and charity law
  • innovative funding and tax-saving schemes
  • mergers, collaborations and joint ventures
  • protection and exploitation of research
  • student complaints, discipline and appeals
  • transnational provision

We circulate regular updates on topics of legal interest to the sector and run a regular programme of free breakfast briefings in Birmingham, London and the North.

We offer a wide-ranging training programme, tailored to the needs of individual institutions, and members of the Education Team regularly speak at sector conferences.
