key sectors: banking
We have a closely knit team built around a combination of the
development of our own trainees into senior fee earners and partners,
and the recruitment of external senior lawyers, all sharing the
same ethos which is a commitment to high performance with ready
accessibility on a 24/7 basis.
We understand that banks and other financial institutions look
for clear, coordinated and comprehensive legal advice which
takes account of the commercial and regulatory pressures under
which
they work. Our involvement in the Report on the Transfer
of Security in the SME sector for 11 banks has provided us
with a unique insight into the security processes of those 11
banks, and the possible differences in approach.
We also understand the need of financial institutions to be
informed of the balance of risk of any particular course of action
so
that they can make informed decisions. Our expertise includes
corporate transactional work, property funding including conventional
senior debt bank lending, contractual joint ventures, partnerships
and corporate joint ventures, public sector educational charitable
and not for profit lending. We are also regularly involved in
restructuring, outsourcing and debt recovery.
We also provide advice on the standard security documentation
for banks, all aspects of SME regulation and compliance with
voluntary codes and other regulatory requirements such as money
laundering. We have advised private banks on the launch of SIPP
products and on financial promotion sign off and marketing brochures.
We are always keen to broaden our expertise and understanding
of our clients' practices and needs and the pressures on
them, and this has involved us in assisting with a wide range
of sensitive issues. We are aware of the need for practical
advice and balancing the need of compliance with the reality
of doing
business.
The core team, consisting of 12 partners, 3 associates, and 6 solicitors,
is led by Ian Baker.
