We know that to some equestrianism is a business and to others a past time but to most it is about passion and our legal service reflects this. Our clients take it for granted that we will deal with their legal problems with expertise but also with empathy and understanding.

  • Sale & purchase of equestrian properties;

  • Planning advice, including in respect of planning applications & appeals, applications to stop up/divert/dedicate bridleways and footpaths in rural areas, and applications and appeals under the new open access legislation etc;

  • Environmental issues including noise abatement and hazardous substances consents;

  • Construction contracts including professional consultants' appointments for the design and development of equestrian centres and/or associated facilities such as eventing courses;

  • General commercial contracts including drafting standard terms & conditions of trading, joint ventures, intellectual property, patents & trademarks, data protection and the protection of confidential information;

  • Advice in respect of insurance agreements and claims made under these;

  • Employment law including drafting contracts of employment and employment policies and procedures, advising on disciplinary, grievance or performace meetings and appeals, equal pay and discrimination law, and dealing with Employment Tribunal claims;

  • Charity law including corporate governance;

  • Company & corporate advice including trading structures (sole trader, limited liability partnerships, or limited company) and setting these up;

  • Advice on finance/funding agreements including loan documentation, and secured lending and borrowing; and

  • Dispute resolution including claims for breach of contract and/or negligence, and pursuing/defending such claims through the courts, arbitration, expert determination or mediation etc.

Our Equine Team

The Equine Law team is part of our Private Capital & Charities Group, headed by Keith Dudley, which is one of our six focus sectors. The team is lead by Michael Craik, partner, and Lynda Richards, solicitor, supported by a team of lawyers specialising in relevant legal areas.
